Prayagraj: To curb electricity theft, the electricity department is continuously conducting raids. On Friday, Kareli Sub-Divisional Officer Rajveer Singh Kataria and Junior Engineer Sabir Ali along with their team conducted a checking campaign in Shastri Nagar and Wasiabad areas of Karelabagh area. During the checking, a battery rickshaw charging point in Shastri Nagar was caught illegally stealing electricity and apprehended red handed. Officials found that apart from this charging point, electricity was being stolen through Katiya at three other places also. The Electricity Department lodged an FIR against a total of nine people under relevant sections under the Electricity Theft Act. SDO Kataria said that at present Consumers’ meters are being checked with ampere machines. If meter tampering is detected, fine will be imposed on the culprits. Officials warned that strict action will be taken against those found involved in electricity theft. This campaign of the Electricity Department is being run with the aim of curbing electricity theft in the area and reducing line losses.
