Prayagraj: On Thursday, Congress workers under the leadership of Gangapar President Ashfaq Ahmed staged a protest at Phulpur tehsil of Prayagraj with four-point demands. During this the workers raised their voice with slogans like Take back the name of MNREGA, give employment to the unemployed, long live Mahatma Gandhi. After the protest, Congress workers submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor via Phulpur SDM Juhi Prasad. Congress said that the weakening of MNREGA has directly affected the livelihood of the poor, laborers and farmers. The party demanded to ensure guarantee of 100 days of employment by re-implementing the scheme with immediate effect. In the memorandum, a demand was raised to provide proper and affordable system of support price, fertiliser, seeds, electricity and irrigation for the interests of the farmers. It was also alleged that the general public is being harassed by making the SIR form process complicated, due to which the possibility of names being removed from the voter list is increasing. Congress demanded to make this process simple and transparent. Apart from this, demands for improving the condition of health services in government hospitals, ensuring availability of essential medicines and fixing accountability of officials were also included in the memorandum. Speaking on this occasion, Congress Gangapar President Ashfaq Ahmed said that the Congress party is fighting for the rights of the poor and the oppressed and will continue to fight. The BJP government has taken away the rights of the poor through MNREGA. He said that the present BJP government is working to close down the employment scheme for the poor which was run by the Congress government through MNREGA. He demanded immediate restoration of MNREGA.
Congress Gangapar Vice President Nisha Singh said that the Congress party will not allow the rights of the poor to be snatched away. He said that the present BJP government has failed on every issue. Be it public service or women empowerment. The present government is proving to be a failure in every field. The BJP government is failing on every front.
