Meaning of Rudra Abhishek: Rudra is a popular name for Lord Shiva. Rudrabhishekam involves worshipping and offering prayers to the Shivalinga by giving it a sacred bath. It is one of the most powerful forms of worship in Hinduism and is believed to bless devotees with prosperity and peace, and to wash away the sins of many lifetimes. Shiva is considered an extremely generous god and is easily pleased.
Why perform Rudrabhishek? People primarily perform Rudrabhishek to relieve their suffering. By performing the ritualistic abhishek of Shiva, the incarnation of Rudra, humans are freed from all their troubles. It is written in the scriptures, “Rutam-dukham, dravyati-nashayatitirudra:,” meaning that Shiva defeats and destroys all suffering.
