Prayagraj: The ashes of Puran Chandra Joshi (PC Joshi), the late husband of senior BJP leader and former MP Rita Bahuguna Joshi, were immersed in the Ganga at Haridwar on May 18, 2026. The ash immersion (Asthi Visarjan) was held at the VIP Ghat in Haridwar. The rituals were performed following full Vedic traditions and mantras by the family’s priests. The couple’s son, Mayank Joshi, brought the ashes to the holy city. The solemn ceremony saw the presence of prominent political and social figures, including Uttarakhand cabinet minister Saurabh Bahuguna, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna, Shekhar Bahuguna along with Sudha and Vinita and other family members, Rita Joshi, her son Mayank Joshi, Saket Bahuguna and Rita Joshi’s daughter-in-law Richa reached Haridwar with the ashes, where Saurabh Bahuguna, Cabinet Minister and the Joshi family were present alongwith other state dignitaries.. On this occasion, many ministers of Uttarakhand government, saint community, MLAs, BJP officials and leaders of other parties were also present. PC Joshi, a 79-year-old mechanical engineer and professor, passed away earlier in May at the SGPGI hospital in Lucknow after a brief illness. His last rites were previously held in Prayagraj.
