Prayagraj: The Department of English, Nehru Gram Bharati (Deemed to be University), organised a Special Lecture on “Cultural Studies, marking the introduction of the subject at the university. The keynote was delivered by Dr. Umesh Chandra, Assistant Professor (English & MEL), who reflected on India’s rich cultural heritage, voiced concern over its gradual fading, and highlighted the value of local festivals and traditions. Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor urged students to read widely as a means of understanding Indian culture, while the Pro-Vice-Chancellor encouraged them to learn multiple languages-Hindi, English and Sanskrit, and to pursue lifelong learning. The Registrar, Dr. S. S. Mishra, welcomed the lecture as a new beginning for the University, and Dr. Chhaya Malviya, Head of the Department of English, noted that cultural activity is a fine way to relieve stress. The Director of Research, Dr. Adinath, proposed the vote of thanks, and the programme was compered by Mr. Balkaran, Assistant Professor of English. Dr. Monika Gupta Assistant Professor (Home Science) supported the organisation of the event, which drew enthusiastic participation from BA, MA and PhD students.
