Prayagraj: The Department of Mass Communication organized a “Dialogue with the Editor” discussion program today at the Regional Centre of Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Prayagraj, to discuss the current state of journalism, social concerns, and the challenges and opportunities facing the media in the digital age. Opening the program, keynote speaker Shyam Mishra, Editor of Dainik Jagran, Prayagraj, said that in this era of digital revolution, the speed of information has increased, but maintaining the credibility of news is the biggest challenge today. The role of an editor is not just about selecting news, but also about ensuring accountability to society.
Discussing the impact of modern technology and AI, he said that while technology is being used in media organizations today for proofreading and editing, only a vigilant journalist can connect a news story with human sensitivity. Journalism requires both trust and attention. Therefore, greater attention is paid to the content of news.
Professor Akhilesh Kumar Dubey, Academic Director of the Regional Centre, Prayagraj, said that Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi and Madan Mohan Malaviya are the founding fathers of journalism. The position of editor is a responsible position that instills trust in readers. It is a journalist’s job to awaken readers’ consciousness while discharging their responsibilities with discretion, thought, and reflection. During the “Dialogue with the Editor” program, students from the Department of Mass Communication, Pragya Bharti, Ajay Kumar, and Sandeep Saroj, Shivanand Shastri of Film Studies, and Deepesh Kumar, a research scholar in Literature, along with other researchers and students, posed various questions related to the profession of journalism, which were readily addressed by Editor Shyam Mishra. The program began with Academic Director Professor Akhilesh Kumar Dubey and Chief Guest Shyam Mishra laying flowers before the portraits of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and Goddess Saraswati. Academic Director Professor Akhilesh Kumar Dubey welcomed Chief Guest Shyam Mishra with a University memento, a shawl, and a bouquet. Dr. Chandra Mani, visiting professor in the Department of Mass Communication, welcomed the Center’s Academic Director, Professor Akhilesh Kumar Dubey, with a floral tribute.
Dr. Avantika Shukla, Chairperson of the Department of Women’s Studies, delivered the welcome address. The program was conducted and coordinated by Dr. Akhtar Alam, Assistant Professor, Department of Mass Communication. Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Translation Studies, delivered the vote of thanks. Present on the occasion were Dr. Mithilesh Kumar Tiwari, Dr. Yasharth Manjul, Dr. Satyaveer, Dr. Vijaya Singh, Dr. Surabhi Viplav, Rahul Chandra Ravi, Rushika Nidhi, Swati Pandey, Srishti Gupta, Jyoti Atrolia, and other researchers and students.
