Prayagraj: Girls’ High School & College celebrated National Sports Day with great zeal and enthusiasm on the 29th and 30th of August, 2025, to commemorate the birth anniversary of “The Wizard of Hockey”, ‘Bharat Ratna’ Major Dhyan Chand – a legendary figure who brought international acclaim to India through his unparalleled skill and sportsmanship.
The two-day celebration served as a powerful reminder of the indispensable role of sports in shaping young minds, not only by promoting physical fitness but also by nurturing qualities of discipline, resilience, teamwork, and perseverance.
The celebration commenced on 29th August, 2025, with a Special Assembly dedicated to remembering the glorious achievements of Major Dhyan Chand. Students and teachers collectively took an oath to strive for a lifestyle that is physically active, mentally sound, and emotionally balanced. Addressing the gathering, Rev. Dr. V. Eusebius, Principal, reiterated that co-curricular activities are not merely supplementary but integral to a student’s educational journey, fostering all-round development and preparing them for life beyond academics. The assembly closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
The spirit of sportsmanship was carried forward into the second day, 30th August, 2025, under the national campaign “Ek Ghanta Khel ke Maidaan Mein”. The campus was abuzz with vibrant energy as students actively participated in a wide spectrum of games, including volleyball, basketball, kho-kho, races, and throwing events. Each competition witnessed spirited performances, reflecting the students’ passion, determination, and camaraderie.
The event resonated with the national call #KhelegaDeshKhilegaDesh, inspiring young learners to embrace sports as a way of life. The celebration not only paid tribute to Major Dhyan Chand but also instilled in students the values of perseverance, fair play, excellence, friendship, respect, courage, determination, equality and a commitment to holistic well-being.
