Spiritual music eve, decorated colourful lights adds ambience & aura to aesthetic settings
Prayagraj: On Friday, on the eve of the 150th anniversary of St. Peter’s Church in Myorabad, the entire church was decorated with colourful lights. Rev. Praveen Massey, Secretary of the Diocese of Lucknow, Church of North India and pastor of the church, said that in 1858, a large number of people from the Christian community from Agra and Secunderabad came to Prayagraj and took refuge in Myorabad. A donation of Rs 20,114 thousand was collected to build the church. The architectural style of the church is based on the shape of the cross of Lord Jesus.
Lord Muir donated 40 acres of land: Lord Muir donated 40 acres of land to build St. Peter’s Church in Muirabad. After this, on 17 May 1872, the then Lieutenant Governor Lord William Muir laid the foundation of Muirabad Church. The church was built under the guidance of the then Bishop of Kolkata, Milman. On 12 March 1875, this church was opened for worship for the first time. The first pastor of the church was David Mohan, after whom the whole area was named Muirabad. At present, the church has more than six hundred members. On the occasion of the anniversary, the children of the church presented a colorful program in which the atmosphere became more devotional by singing the song, “When someone told me…..Come, let’s go to the Lord’s house, my heart started dancing…my heart was happy…”. On the two-day celebration, the chief guest, Bishop Morris Edgar Dan, celebrated the happiness by cutting the cake and also prayed for the welfare of the people by getting the Bible read. He read from Ephesians 5:25 from the Bible which says “Christ loved the church, and gave himself for it.” He said that the Lord Jesus preached the message of love and brotherhood. He said that the church is a place to fellowship with each other in the presence of Lord Jesus with mutual love and brotherhood. He said that the congregation of St. Peter Myorabad Church is able to do God’s work and is constantly contributing to the progress of the society which is praiseworthy.
