Prayagraj: The closing ceremony of seven days “Health Festival” from September 11 to 17 in collaboration with the Health Committee of the College, Prayagraj Hospital, Kareli and Inner Wheel Club of Allahabad Midtown was held on Wednesday at Begum Khurshid Khwaja Hall of the college The chief guest was Padmashree Dr. B. Paul Thaliath (Oncologist and Gastro Surgeon, Kamala Nehru Hospital, Prayagraj). Guest of Honor was Prof. (Dr.) Shabi Ahmed (SRN Medical College) and Mr. Mohammad Farhanullah (Assistant Manager, Hamidia Girls Degree College). Dr. Syed Aariz Qadri (Director, Prayagraj Hospital, Kareli) was the special guest. Program started with the recitation of Quranic verse recitated by the student of B.A. bouquet and momentous were presented to the guest.
Earlier the welcome address was delivered by the principal of the College Professor Naseeha Usmani.Prof.Sabiha Azmi. Coordinator Health Committee presented a report of seven days health carnival. Dr.Syed Aariz Qadri, Director, Prayagraj Hospital, Kareli appreciated the initiative of college health committee .He said that we earnestly aspire that the culmination of our collective efforts has yielded tangible benefits to the broader community, fostering greater awareness and appreciation for oral health and its significance in overall well-being.

.Dr. B. Paul Thaliath (Oncologist and Gastro Surgeon, Kamala Nehru Hospital, Prayagraj discussed the causes and preventives measures of cancer.He said that cancer is increasing rapidly; therefore it is important to step up cancer literacy and knowledge amongst the population.He said that this will lead to early detection which is important in the management and treatment of cancer and also prevention by making necessary changes in lifestyle.Breast Cancer is rapidly rising amongst women in urban areas and it is the most common cancer in India. Early detection is essential in its management and treatment. Due to ignorance, fear, and social stigma many women present with stage III or IV cancer which requires surgery and extensive treatment. If detected early, then in most cases there will be less aggressive treatment and better chances of recovery.
Cervical Cancer is the second most common cancer among women in India. It is the only preventable cancer and it can be detected in the pre – cancerous phase and cured.
Oral and Lung cancers are highest among men and women in the urban as well as rural population and these can also be prevented to a large extent. Therefore, making people aware of the dangers of chewing tobacco and smoking is of great importance. Members of inner wheel club and dignitaries were also present in the program.
The entire event is being organized by the Health Committee, Hamidia Girls Degree College, Prayagraj. The committee’s patron is Mrs. Tazeen Ehsanullah, chairperson is Prof. Naseha Usmani, and coordinator is Prof. Sabiha Azmi. The committee includes Mrs. Neerja Verma, Prof. Iram Farid Usmani, Dr. Shabana Aziz, Dr. Zarina Begum, Dr. Siddiqa Jabir, and Mrs. Sharmeen Fatima as active members. Program was conducted by Professor Sabiha Azmi, Coordinator Health Committee and Prof.Erum Farid Usmani, Department of Sociology, HGDC proposed vote of thanks. Faculty members of the college and student actively participated in the program. Program ended with college Tarana presented by college choir.
