Prayagraj: As part of Hindi Fortnight celebrations, a seminar on “The Usefulness and Importance of Hindi in the Judiciary” was organized on Thursday at the historic Library Hall of the Allahabad High Court under the joint auspices of the High Court Bar Association, Allahabad, and Bharatiya Bhasha Abhiyan, Kashi Province (High Court Unit). The program was presided over by Rakesh Pandey, President of the High Court Bar Association, with General Secretary Akhilesh Kumar Sharma conducting the proceedings. Hon’ble Justice Ajit Kumar graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Justices Dr. Shekhar Kumar Yadav, Dr. Gautam Chowdhary, Saurabh Srivastava, and Anish Kumar Gupta attended as special guests. Additional Advocate General Mahesh Chandra Chaturvedi and Chief Standing Counsel Sheetla Prasad Gaur were also present. The event commenced with the traditional garlanding of Maa Saraswati’s portrait and lighting of the lamp. Guests were felicitated with mementos and ceremonial angavastras.
Justice Dr. Shekhar Kumar Yadav emphasized that Hindi is not only a symbol of national identity but also the essence of Indian culture. Justice Dr. Gautam Chowdhary, credited with delivering 27,000 judgments in Hindi, stated that advocates were his inspiration in promoting Hindi judgments. Justice Saurabh Srivastava noted his commitment to continuing judgments in Hindi, while Justice Ajit Kumar highlighted the initiative of former Chief Justice of India Dr. D.Y. Chandrachud in translating Supreme Court judgments into regional languages.
Vice-President of the Bar Association, Amit Kumar Singh “Sonu,” stressed that justice must be delivered in the people’s language to strengthen trust in the judiciary. Renowned poet Dr. Shlesh Gautam and others captivated the audience with Hindi recitations. On this occasion, several advocates working extensively in Hindi were honored.
