Memo addressed to Chief Justice Arun Bhasali handed over to Registrar General Manjeet Singh Sheoran

Prayagraj: Advocates have protested the process for allotment of newly constructed lawyer chambers to advocates in the High Court. The fee charged for chamber allotment has caused deep concern and disappointment among advocates, especially young and struggling ones. Meeting in the High Court’s Tribhuvan Upadhyay Hall on Saturday, the advocates demanded from Chief Justice Arun Bhasali and Senior Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi, Chairman of the Chambers Allotment Committee, that the Uttar Pradesh government allocate the newly constructed lawyer chambers free of charge to respected advocates. Led by High Court Advocate Manish Dwivedi, a memorandum addressed to the Chief Justice was submitted to the Registrar General of the Allahabad High Court, Manjeet Singh Sheoran, on Saturday. Advocate Manish Dwivedi stated that since the Uttar Pradesh government constructed the chambers, it would be justified to allocate the chambers free of charge. Furthermore, for the convenience of ordinary advocates, the option of paying the prescribed fee for the newly constructed lawyer chambers in installments, rather than in one lump sum, should be offered to advocates. Advocates unanimously demanded that the amount set aside for the upkeep and maintenance of lawyer chambers be kept to a minimum, as ordinary lawyers are unable to afford such high fees. They demanded that the prescribed fees be reconsidered in the best interests of lawyers.

The lawyers stated that after years of struggle, tireless efforts, and a long wait by the legal community, the newly constructed lawyer chambers and parking building in the High Court complex are certainly a historic achievement. Therefore, the allocation process should be conducted with the convenience of the lawyers in mind. Since lawyers are frequently told that they are officers of the court, it is natural to expect that the allocation process and fee structure for the lawyer chambers constructed for them should be determined keeping in mind their social and economic status. Advocates Guru Prasad Mishra, Manish Dwivedi, Ashish Dubey, Pushkar Mishra, Sarvesh Singh, Raj Sharma, Sushil Singh, Rajiv Kumar Tiwari, Satish Dhuria, Jai Prakash Tiwari, Shashank Singh, Rahul Ojha, Phoolchandra Singh, Kripesh Mishra, Rahul Gaur, Harish Pratap Singh, Ajay Singh, Dinesh Dubey, Shailesh Pandey, Omkar Jaiswal, Kamal Dev Pandey, Mukesh Pandey, Rajesh Shukla, Shivmurti Kushwaha, and others were present at the meeting.
