Organizing series of lectures on Official Language and Science

Prayagraj: ICFRE-ERC, Prayagraj (Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education, Dehradun, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India) organized a one-day “Official Language and Science Lecture Series – 2026” on Wednesday, on the topic “India’s Perception of Nature and Environment.” The lecture series was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the keynote speaker, Prof. (Dr.) Girish Chandra Tripathi, former Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University and Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh State Higher Education Council. Centre Head Dr. Sanjay Singh delivered the welcome address and highlighted the program’s objectives.

In his lecture, the keynote speaker, Dr. Tripathi, stated that in the Indian understanding, the earth is considered one’s family, while Western thought considers the earth a market; this is a difference in perspective. Prof. Tripathi further stated that our principle is “May all be happy in life.” India’s understanding of nature and environment is rooted in the concept of family, where everyone complements each other. In this context, he said that protecting nature is an Indian idea. We must embrace modernity but not abandon our roots. Only when culture coexists with science will there be sensible development. Renowned theatre director Praveen Shekhar graced the event as a special guest. The Centre’s senior scientist, Alok Yadav, presented the vote of thanks. The Centre’s senior scientist, Dr. Anubha Srivastava, successfully conducted the program. Environmentalists, researchers, and students from various institutions attended the lecture series organized by the Centre and benefited from the informative lectures, informed Ankur Srivastava, Media Cell, ICFRE-ERC.
