Prayagraj: The 17th GFI Junior National Grappling Championship 2024, held in Jammu from November 24 to 26, concluded with spectacular performances from young athletes representing various states. Among the standout participants were members of the Uttar Pradesh Grappling Team, who showcased remarkable talent and determination. Ashlyn B. John, representing Uttar Pradesh in the Cadet group in the -46kg weight category, stole the spotlight by clinching two Gold Medals—one each in No-Gi Grappling and Gi Grappling. Her exceptional performance highlighted her technical prowess and dominance in the national arena. Adding to the team’s success, Amrit Aggarwal competed in the Cadet group in the -69kg weight category and secured two Silver Medals in both Gi and No-Gi. Amrit’s achievement reflects his dedication and impressive skill set, making him a promising name in Indian grappling.

The achievements of the young grapplers were lauded by Mr. Sandeep Kushwaha, President of the Grappling Association of Prayagraj, and Dr. Sunita B. John, Secretary of the association. They congratulated both athletes for their stellar performances and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence. “Their achievements have brought immense pride to Uttar Pradesh and serve as an inspiration for aspiring grapplers. We are committed to supporting our athletes in their journey toward greater success,” said Mr. Kushwaha.

The championship, organised by the Grappling Federation of India (GFI), witnessed fierce competition across various categories and underscored the growing popularity of grappling in India. With their outstanding performances, Ashlyn and Amrit have not only elevated the status of the Uttar Pradesh Grappling Team but have also set a benchmark for young athletes nationwide. The event was a resounding success, reflecting the potential of India’s youth to excel on both national and international stages in grappling.
