Prayagraj: Today, Sufiya Tanveer is a familiar name among Mumbai’s theatre circles. But her journey has been far from easy. Making a name for herself in a city as massive and competitive as Mumbai—without a godfather or industry connections—meant two years of relentless struggle. From performing on stage to standing in long lines for film auditions, Sufiya proved herself every step of the way. And now, she’s finally bagged her first lead role in a Bollywood feature film — Oye Chill Maar, under the banner of Tulshiram Production House.

“I didn’t come here to become a star overnight,” Sufiya says with a smile. “Theatre taught me that falling, learning, and rising again is the real victory.” Though this marks her Bollywood debut, Sufiya is no stranger to the camera. Her performances in short films have already drawn praise for their natural flair and compelling screen presence. Along with theatre, she has also appeared in music videos, TV serials, and a few web series — steadily building a strong and diverse portfolio. “I’ve heard more ‘no’s than most people even audition for,” she laughs. “But every rejection made me better. I don’t chase screen time, I chase meaningful roles.” Sufiya’s vision is clear — she wants roles that say something, that allow her to grow from within. “Glamorous roles may shine for a while, but truthful characters stay with people forever,” she adds.

Her biggest support system throughout this journey has been her mother. “My mom always says — hard work never loses. That thought held me together every time I wanted to give up,” Sufiya shares, her voice turning emotional. Now, with Oye Chill Maar in full swing, Sufiya is completely focused. Her next target? South Indian cinema — where, according to her, storytelling and performance are truly valued. To other aspiring actors like herself, Sufiya offers just one piece of advice: “Don’t run after fame. Run after growth.” And with that grounded mindset, Sufiya Tanveer is stepping into Bollywood — carving out her own space, on her own terms.
