Prayagraj: A statement by BJP MLA from Dhoomanganj in Prayagraj and former cabinet minister Siddharth Nath Singh is making the rounds these days – and the reason is his controversial “resolution”. Netaji said, “When we came to power in 2017, we came with a pledge to destroy the Gaddi community.” Now the question arises: should any MLA’s “pledge” be to wipe out any community? Has the purpose of politics shifted from development, employment, and education to dividing society along caste lines? This statement by MLA Siddharth Nath Singh is being perceived as directed against a particular community. As soon as the statement came out, anger spread in the community. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Metropolitan President Afsar Mahmood strongly condemned this, saying that this language not only promotes casteism but also insults educated and honest citizens. Those from the Gaddi community include those in the education sector who impart knowledge to children, those officers in the judiciary who provide justice to society, those serving in the army and police who protect the country, and those hundreds of lawyers who are fighting for justice in the district courts and high courts. In Prayagraj, many people from the Gaddi community are working as lawyers, officers and even judges, so isn’t this statement a direct attack on their self-respect? If Netaji ever has to appear in the court of such a judge, won’t he feel ashamed? What should be the priority of politics? The public is now asking the MLA who took a pledge in 2017 to “ruin the Gaddi” whether there is no place for real issues like development, unemployment and crime. Is targeting a particular community the new agenda of politics now? Drugs, marijuana, crime and unemployment are at their peak in the Dhoomanganj area, but Netaji’s silence on these issues shows that his priority is not to unite the society, but to divide it.
