Justice Srivastava praises Principal Luke for catapulting institution to greater heights
164th Annual Sports & Athletic Meet of Boys’ High School (BHS) & College held
Prayagraj: “Teamwork makes the dream work. Play hard, dream big.” Believing in this maxim, St. Andrew’s House, in a battle of mettle and determination won the Athletic Championship Trophy at the prestigious 164th Annual Sports of Boys’ High School (BHS) and College here on Sunday evening. Justice Ashutosh Srivastava, Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad was the Chief Guest. On arrival, the Chief Guest was accorded a warm welcome by the BHS Principal, D. A. Luke.
The presence of proud parents triggered the potential of the students even more. Thrill and excitement could be seen in the school campus. In a spectacular display of sporting talents St. Andrew’s House scored 558 points and bagged the first position. The other Houses namely St. Patrick’s (Green), St. Peter’s (Yellow) and St. George’s (Red) with 401, 226 and 225 points to their credit were placed in the second, third and fourth positions.
Spreading the colours of brilliance, the four Houses St. Andrew’s, St. George’s, St. Patrick’s and St. Peter’s displayed a synchorous March Past. The Marching Squad was led by the Sports Captain. Adhya Singh. Thereafter, the Sport Captain took oath on behalf of the sportsmen and promised to abide by the rules and regulations.
The ceremonial lighting of the torch was a breath-taking spectacle. A team of sportsperson who represented the state in Badminton, Cricket, Football, Swimming, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Air Rifle Shooting carried the torch and handed it over to the Sports Captain, Adhya Singh who finally lit the torch amid loud cheering from the sports persons and the audience.
The alumni of the batch of 1975 and 2000 who returned to their alma mater presented an impressive Inter House march past and were cheered by the audience.
The Chief Guest, Justice Ashutosh Srivastava took the salute of the marching squads of the four houses. Thereafter, he declared the Annual Sports open. In the marching event, Senior and Junior category, Blue House came first and marched away with the delicious cake. The runners up were Green House while the Red and Yellow House were placed in the third and fourth positions.
The students showcased multi-faceted talents which mesmerized the audience. The event, ‘Babies Day Out’, a parade by the Playway, Nursery and Preparatory classes followed by `Welcome’ by Playway were a treat to watch. The drill, `Pied Piper of Hamlin’ by Nursery and Preparatory classes and `Elements of Nature’ by classes 1, 2 and 3 drew wide applause from the audience, The students of classes 4 and 5, presented a drill titled, `Bharat Ek Yatra’ in which they highlighted the various facets of Indian life, while classes 6 and 7 presented `A Luminous Rhapsody’. Students of classes 8, 9 and 10 presented a drill titled, `A Symphony of Varicoloured E-Motions’.
As the races began, the air was filled with cheering in terms of encouragement for the young athletes who with their grit and determination race to achieve victory and glory for their Houses. Addressing the jam-packed gathering, the Chief Guest praised the students for putting up a spectacular show and said, “It is more important to participate rather than to win.” He emphasized the importance of literacy and sports which are necessary for the overall developments of an individual’s personality. He praised the Principal for maintaining the high standards of the school in the field of education and taking the institution to even greater heights.
The prizes were distributed by the chief guest, Principal and other dignitaries. The Annual Sports came to an end with the vote of thanks by the Principal D. A. Luke. The function came to an end with the National Anthem.
