Prayagraj: Former spokesman of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, Kishore Varshney, has termed the tenth budget presented in the Assembly for the year 2026–27 by the Finance Minister , Suresh Khanna of the Yogi government as completely disappointing. Varshney said that there is nothing in the budget for the common people. The government has taken no concrete steps for education, social welfare, women, youth, and employment generation. Although funds have been allocated for several projects, it seems difficult to give them a practical shape.

He said that the provision of employment for 1 million (10 lakh) youth who are already facing the brunt of unemployment is merely superficial. The amount allocated in the agriculture sector has not been spent in proportion to the requirement. More money has been spent on advertisements than on farmers’ loan waivers as required. There is also no provision of bonus on wheat and paddy. No effective measures have been taken to stop the plight of farmers. The arrangement of funds allocated under the farmer accident insurance scheme has also proved useless; not a single farmer has received its benefit, whereas insurance agencies have benefited. Similarly, no effective steps have been taken regarding stray cattle and the cow protection policy. He said that although this is the biggest budget so far, amounting to Rs. 9.12 lakh crore, a 12% higher than last year, the government has not clarified how the estimated deficit will be fulfilled. Overall, this is a wasteful budget.
