Prayagraj: The police has placed Congress city president Fuzail Hashmi under house arrest. Hashmi was about to leave for Lucknow on Tuesday, along with hundreds of party workers for the Congress-proposed assembly siege on the issues of MNREGA, inflation and unemployment. However, a large police force from Puramufti, led by Inspector Manoj Singh, reached his residence in Bamrauli and placed him under house arrest. Hashmi has described his arrest at the behest of the government as against democracy. He said that the voice raised by the Congress against the anti-people government cannot be suppressed by arrest. Senior Congress leaders Kishore Varshney and Harikesh Tripathi condemned Hashmi’s arrest, saying that raising voices against the government is a democratic right of the people. The Congress Party will continue its struggle for the interests of farmers, the poor, and unemployed youth. The two leaders appealed to the city’s Congressmen to reach Lucknow in large numbers for Tuesday’s proposed assembly siege.

City Congress Vice President Anoop Tripathi, Manas Shukla, Pradeep Dwivedi, Afroz Ahmed, Parvez Siddiqui, Shahnawaz Qureshi, Sushmita Yadav, Pratima Tripathi, Nayan Kushwaha, Rakesh Srivastava, Ishtiyak Ahmed Allah etc. described the arrest of the city president as dictatorship of the government.
