Sherbet Distribution Brings Cool Comfort to Thousands

Mirzapur: On the third major Tuesday of the Hindu month of Jyeshtha, when temperatures soared to 44–45°C and the Meteorological Department issued a heatwave alert, a wave of cool relief swept across Mirzapur’s Kachahari Square.  Under the joint initiative of the Journalist Press Council and the UP Working Journalists’ Union, Mirzapur unit, a sherbet distribution drive was organized. In the scorching afternoon, more than 1,000 passersby and laborers quenched their thirst and found respite from the blazing sun.

The service initiative was led by Jasmin Lal, District President of the UP Working Journalists’ Union, and Ajay Kumar Pandey, State President of the Journalist Press Council.

Jasmin Lal remarked, “Today is the auspicious occasion of Bada Mangal. In this extreme heat, we too have a responsibility towards society. At such times, one must step forward and participate in service.”

Ajay Kumar Pandey added, “This is pure public service. We are journalists, but we appeal to social organizations, political parties, and voluntary groups to also set up water kiosks and sherbet distribution drives. If we work together, the impact of the heat will lessen.” Active support in the distribution was provided by Nirmal Dubey, Naveen Kumar Ghanshyami, and Dhruv Pandey.

The event was attended by District Information Officer Om Prakash Upadhyay, Dr. Arvind Srivastava, Today Mirzapur journalist Om Shankar Giri, Vikas Tiwari, Shiv Bhola Singh, Sarika Dubey, Rahul Tiwari, along with several other journalists. In the midst of the heatwave, this initiative not only quenched thirst but also conveyed a message of harmony and cooperation within society.
