Prayagraj: A case of major theft has been reported from Vimal Kutir, house no. 23/47/55K (next to Sardar Patel School) located in Kidwai Nagar, Alapur, George Town police station area. The victim, Vasudev Pandey, son of the late Ram Pratap, aged over 88, had gone to Lucknow with his son Kamalakar Pandey on August 13, 2026, due to ill health. His son returned home on September 8, 2026, and locked the house and left on September 14, 2026.

Upon receiving information from neighbors, the family returned home to find that four large Godrej cupboards, seven briefcases, and six large boxes had been broken into. The thieves broke the locks of the cupboards and stole jewelry, cash, and valuables worth approximately Rs. 1.5 to 2.5 crore. The victim’s family has submitted a written application to the Police Commissioner of Prayagraj, DCP Prayagraj, ACP Colonelganj, and the Station House Officer of Georgetown, demanding the registration of an FIR.

Questions raised over police performance: The victim alleges that when he went to the Allahpur police station with his complaint, he found the police station locked. The police station in-charge arrived approximately three hours later, took only photos and videos with his mobile phone, and then left. No forensic team was sent to the scene, nor was a panchnama or formal investigation conducted. The elderly victim has demanded that an FIR be registered at the Georgetown police station, and a forensic team investigate, and the theft be solved soon.
