Twin Brothers Kushagra and Yashagra Qualify as State Panel Umpires
Prayagraj: Young talents from the Sangam city have brought laurels to the district by excelling in the official examinations conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA). While Pritesh Sonkar of Daraganj has qualified as a state-level scorer, twin brothers Kushagra Tripathi and Yashagra Tripathi have cleared the state-level umpiring examination to become UPCA state panel umpires.
Someshwar Pandey, Joint Convenor (Administration) of the Allahabad Cricket Association (ACA), stated that Pritesh Sonkar achieved state panel scorer status after clearing the UPCA state-level scoring examination held in Kanpur in August. Pritesh, son of Pradeep Sonkar and Seema Sonkar from Daraganj, is already a district panel scorer for the Allahabad Cricket Association, which had officially nominated his name for the examination.
Mr. Pandey added that the UPCA umpiring examination was conducted under the supervision and guidance of former ICC umpire Anil Chaudhary. Out of 97 candidates from various districts across the state, only 14 successfully cleared the exam. Similarly, the scoring examination was held under the supervision of BCCI educator and umpire P. Jayapal, in which 33 scorers from different districts participated, with only 5 clearing the test.
Twin Brothers Clear Exam Together: In another major achievement, twin brothers Kushagra Tripathi and Yashagra Tripathi from Prayagraj cleared the UPCA umpiring exam simultaneously. Satyavrat Sahay, Secretary of the Chaudhary Naunihal Singh Cricket Academy, confirmed that both brothers successfully passed the exam to join the UPCA state panel of umpires.
Kushagra and Yashagra train under academy coach Mohammad Asif. They are the sons of Akhilesh Tripathi—a High Court advocate, BCCI scorer, and UPCA state panel umpire residing in Daraganj—and Ranjana Tripathi. Both brothers appeared for the examination representing the Ghazipur Division after obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Allahabad Cricket Association. UPCA educator and BCCI scorer, Kanpur resident AP Singh, who made Kushagra and Yashagra adept in the nuances of umpiring, said that they are the youngest to achieve success in the history of UPCA and the special thing is that Kushagra has come second and Yashagra has come fifth in the meet.
