Prayagraj: The Congress party has completely taken to the streets to protest against environmentally damaging projects and corporate loot in the Great Nicobar Islands. Today, Congress workers launched a massive signature campaign in Karanpur of the city’s western assembly constituency. The program was organized under the leadership of Congress District President (Gangapar) Ashfaq Ahmed, in which a large number of local Congress people and general public participated. This campaign is being organized under the guidance of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee state in-charge Avinash Pandey and the direction of state president Ajay Rai. Its main objective is to take forward the resolution of the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, under which he is continuously raising his voice for saving Great Nicobar from corporate loot and for the future of the coming generations and conservation of nature. While addressing the workers during the signature campaign, District President Ashfaq Ahmed made a scathing attack on the Modi government at the Centre. Expressing extreme displeasure, he said that the present government is selling the country’s precious wealth as a gift to its industrialist friends at throwaway prices. He termed the decision to cut 1.5 crore trees in the name of development in Great Nicobar as a big mess with nature.
Ahmed warned that if the Modi government does not immediately reconsider this disastrous decision, the Congress party will take to the streets and strongly protest against itHe also raised serious questions on the law and order of Uttar Pradesh. Attacking the state government, he said that it is clear from the increasing incidents of robbery, murder and rape in the state that ‘Jungle Raj’ has completely established here. Sisters and daughters are not safe in the state and poor and oppressed people are forced to run from pillar to post for justice. Special invitee member Sharad Upadhyay Munna termed the administrative system as a complete failure and said that at present only bureaucracy and dictatorship are prevalent in the state. Besides this, skyrocketing inflation is desperate to engulf the country, making life difficult for the common citizen. During this, the Congress leaders present united and resolved to continue the struggle against the anti-people policies of the government.
