Prayagraj: City Congress Committee President Fuzail Hashmi described Congress as the true well-wisher of the Muslim community. Addressing a meeting of minority community organised in Sulemsarai in the City West area, Hashmi welcomed the formal joining of Congress by prominent Muslim leader of Western Uttar Pradesh and former MP Ameer Alam, along with his son and former MLA Nawazish Alam Khan, at the AICC headquarters on Wednesday.

Hashmi said that the Muslim community would play an important role in the fight to save the country being led by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. He said, “Muslims have shown who stands with the country and who stands against it.” Hashmi said that Ameer Alam is considered one of the most influential Muslim leaders in Western Uttar Pradesh, and his joining the Congress would bring about a significant change in the political equations of the region.

He said that the need of the hour is to stop the polarisation of Hindu votes by the BJP. Breaking what he said as the BJP’s anti-Muslim strategy is a priority for the Congress, he said. He urged the people to defeat BJP through the Congress’s ideology, what he described as an alleged conspiracy by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to create divisions between Hindus and Muslims for the sake of political power. Hashmi claimed that in the forthcoming 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the BJP would be removed from power and that the next government would be formed under the leadership of the Congress. He further claimed that 90% of the country’s population wants Rahul Gandhi to become the next Prime Minister.
