Mahapanchayat will be held on 12 demands of the farmers
Compensation in land acquisition, purchase of paddy at MSP and the problem of stray cattle will be raised, warning of agitation
Prayagraj: A Kisan Kranti Mahapanchayat will be held in Mundera Mandi on Monday to address the problems and rights of farmers. Farmer leader Chaudhary Rakesh Tikait will participate in the Mahapanchayat, which will be held under the auspices of the Bharatiya Kisan Union. The organization will submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister and District Magistrate regarding the problems of farmers and villagers. It includes 12 key demands, including adequate compensation for land acquisition, the purchase of paddy at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), compensation for crop losses, and improvements to the electricity and irrigation system.
Through a Mahapanchayat, Bhakiyu has prepared to raise the problems of farmers before the administration and demand their timely solution. The organization says that problems will not be solved by merely giving assurances to the farmers, but concrete steps will have to be taken for this. The demand for proper compensation to the farmers affected by the Vindhya Expressway, Ring Road and Aerocity projects will be raised prominently. Bhakiyu has demanded to hold open meetings in the affected villages to provide information about the land acquisition and compensation process, revise the circle rate and give compensation for the acquired land as per the rules.
The issue of banning middlemen in paddy procurement will be raised: In Prayagraj and Kaushambi, demands will be made for ensuring the purchase of paddy at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and for the opening of adequate procurement centers. The organization has demanded timely weighing, purchase receipts, and payment of farmers’ produce, and for an end to the interference of middlemen at procurement centers. A survey of paddy and sugarcane crops destroyed by natural disasters and storms will also be conducted and compensation will be provided to affected farmers. Demands will be made for providing at least 18 hours of electricity to rural domestic consumers, adequate fertilizers and quality seeds at government agencies, and for cleaning canals and ensuring water reaches the tail end. The memorandum also includes demands for repairing defunct government tube wells, resolving pending issues related to the Kisan Samman Nidhi (Farmers’ Honor Fund), repairing rural roads, and freeing farm roads from encroachment. The issue of crop damage caused by stray animals entering fields will also be raised at the Mahapanchayat. BKU has demanded the construction of adequate cow shelters, providing fodder, water, and care for animals, and curbing accidents caused by stray animals roaming on the roads.
Warning of agitation if the accused of attack are not arrested: The alleged attack on the BKU Yuva state office near Triple IT on October 19th will also be raised at the Mahapanchayat. The organization alleges that 15 to 20 people entered the office, assaulted officials and workers, and looted Rs. 2.70 lakh. Citing an FIR lodged at the Airport police station in this case, the organization has demanded the arrest of the named accused and the safety of its workers. Furthermore, the organization will demand the resolution of 20 demands related to the Jal Satyagraha movement held on the banks of the Sangam in July and the withdrawal of 12 cases filed against farmers. The BKU has warned that if action is not taken on its demands, it will launch a statewide agitation, protests, and road blockade. The organization has appealed to farmers, officials, and workers to reach Mundera Mandi on Monday to make the Mahapanchayat a success.
