Trade Federation President Satish Kushwaha said – If an accident happens, which officer will take responsibility?
Mundera Chamber of Commerce President Dhananjay Singh has proposed setting up a market at the Army grounds in Nehru Park
Prayagraj: Traders in the Mundera fruit and vegetable market have rallied against the plans to set up a temporary firecracker market on the occasion of Diwali. Concerned about safety and the potential for accidents, the Mundera Mandi Vyapar Mahasangh and Mundera Vyapar Mandal submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate and the Market Secretary, strongly demanding that permission not be granted for setting up shops on the premises.
Satish Kushwaha, president of the Mundera Mandi Vyapar Mahasangh, took a strong stance and questioned the administration, asking which officer would be responsible if any untoward incident or fire occurred due to firecrackers in the heavily crowded Mandi premises. The administration should identify the responsible officer. He said that lessons should be learned from the recent massive fire at a firecracker unit in the Manori area and the resulting loss of life. The lives of thousands of people cannot be put at risk by compromising on safety.
Meanwhile, Dhananjay Singh, president of the Mundera Chamber of Commerce, underscored the gravity of the situation, saying that five thousand farmers, commission agents, porters, traders, and truck drivers are present at the market daily. Hundreds of cargo vehicles are parked on the premises. In such a narrow and busy environment, it would be impossible for anyone to escape during an emergency.
Dhananjay Singh submitted a letter to administrative officials stating that the Army has received no-objection/permission to set up firecracker shops on vacant Army land near Nehru Park, instead of the market, and a copy of the same has been provided to the administration. To avoid any potential loss of life, the Nehru Park grounds are the best option, being open and safe. Therefore, the administration should reconsider and issue an order to set up the shops there.
Those who submitted the memorandum and registered their protest included Satish Kushwaha, Manoj Yadav, Vijay Kumar Pal, Anju Lal Yadav, Nitin Patel, Gyan Singh Patel, Achhe Patel, Dharamdas Kushwaha, Jaswant Kushwaha and a large number of traders associated with the market.
