Prayagraj: The team from the Urology Department of Motilal Nehru Medical College and Swarup Rani Nehru Hospital, Prayagraj, successfully performed a rare and complex surgery to remove a large hydatid cyst from a patient’s right kidney. The cyst was removed with utmost care during the operation, eliminating the risk of rupture and the spread of infection.
The surgery was performed under the supervision of Dr. Dilip Chaurasia, Head of the Department of Urology. After the operation, the cyst was opened and revealed numerous daughter cysts and the characteristic hydatid membrane that is considered the hallmark of this disease.
Dr. Dilip Chaurasia said, “It is very rare for a hydatid cyst to occur in the kidney. In most cases, this disease is found in the liver and lungs. In such complex cases, special care must be taken during surgery because there is a risk of severe allergic reaction and infection if the cyst ruptures. Our team successfully removed the cyst and relieved the patient of this serious problem.”
Assistant Professor of Gastro Surgery Department Dr. Tarun Kalra and Dr. Prakash also provided important support in this complex operation. The anesthesia team included Dr. Shobhit Singh and Dr. Priyanka, with whose help the operation was completed safely.
Junior residents Dr. Khushboo, Dr. Shivani, Dr. Sikta, Dr. Santosh and Dr. Swati also played an important role in the operation and patient care.
Dr. A.K. Verma, Principal of Motilal Nehru Medical College, congratulated Dr. Dilip Chaurasia and the entire team for this successful and complex surgery, stating that the medical college’s specialist physicians continue to perform excellent work in the treatment of rare and challenging diseases. He added that all departments at the institute are working dedicatedly to provide high-quality medical facilities to patients. The patient’s condition after the operation is satisfactory and he is recovering rapidly.
