On the second day of the week-long Health Carnival organized under the NSS-Mission Shakti 5.0 at Hamidia Girls Degree College, a constituent minority college of Allahabad University, Prayagraj, a special lecture on “Gut Health” was held in the  Begum Khurshid Khwaja hall  of the college at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The Health Carnival is being organized in collaboration with Apex Hospital and Park Scanning CT, Ultrasound & Pathology Center, Gol Park, Prayagraj; Prayagraj Hospital, Kareli; Rotary Club of Allahabad Royals, and Araish. The program began with a Hamd recitation by Samreen Jafri, a student of the first semester of the MA, Department of English. The keynote speaker, Prof.  (Dr.) Shabi Ahmed, Department of Gastroenterology, MLN Medical College, Prayagraj, provided detailed information to the students on the topic of “Gut Health.”

He raised awareness among them about the importance of digestive and intestinal health, a balanced diet, and a healthy lifestyle.  He said that our gut is much more than just a place for digestion; it plays a vital role in your overall health. It affects everything from your digestion and immune system to your mood and energy levels.Your gut is home to trillions of microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses, that make up your microbiome. This microbiome plays a critical role in breaking down food, absorbing nutrients, and regulating your immune system. It also influences your mood, skin health, and even how you manage stress. When your gut is out of balance, it can lead to digestive problems like bloating, constipation, and diarrhea.

You may also feel fatigued, notice changes in your skin, or have difficulty focusing. Therefore, keeping your gut healthy is essential for your overall well-being.Regular physical activity is key to maintaining good gut health. Exercise helps stimulate the muscles in your digestive tract, making it easier for food to move through your system. It also reduces stress, which is important for preventing digestive issues. You don’t need to hit the gym to stay active; simple activities like walking, running, or practicing yoga can work wonders for your gut. Earlier the Principal of the college, Prof. Naseha Usmani, delivered a welcome address. While welcoming the guest speaker, she highlighted the objectives of the Health Carnival and the importance of health awareness. The program was conducted by Dr. Tabassum Nigar, Assistant Professor, Department of Medieval History, Hamidia Girls’ Degree College. The vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Sabiha Azmi, Coordinator, Health Committee, Hamidia Girls’ Degree College. Faculty members of the college , research scholar and students were present.
