PRAYAGRAJ: ICFRE-ERC-Ecological Methods and Development Restoration Center, Prayagraj successfully organized a one-day farmer training-cum-workshop on the subject of agroforestry – methods and development under Demo Village on Monday in village Hasi, Babupur, Pratapgarh. The objective of the program was to motivate the rural community for forestry, environmental protection and livelihood promotion. Chief Guest Dr. Sanjay Singh, Center Head, ICFRE-ERC – Ecological Restoration Center, Prayagraj said that this program not only highlights the importance of forests, but is also a meaningful effort towards strengthening the rural economy. Senior scientist Dr. Anita Tomar informed about the outline of the program and also said that the use of tree-based fodder under agroforestry is a long-term, sustainable and beneficial option, which strengthens both animal husbandry and agriculture. She mainly stressed on planting trees like Subabul, Sesbania, Drumstick, Babul etc. for tree-based fodder. Senior scientist Dr. Alok Yadav threw light on planting essential species of bamboo and their use. The program was successfully conducted by senior scientist Dr. Anubha Srivastava. He discussed in detail the importance of agroforestry in improving the environment and increasing livelihood by planting Gamhar, Eucalyptus, Milia Dubia and other tree species. Local farmers, villagers, students and voluntary organizations participated enthusiastically in the program. Senior scientists of the center provided information on tree plantation techniques for environmental improvement and livelihood enhancement, cultivation of medicinal plants, commercial use of bamboo and other forest products.
