Prayagraj: A three-day workshop on “Modern Approach to Arabic: Step-by-Step Learning” was successfully organized by the Department of Arabic, Hamidia Girls’ Degree College (HGDC), University of Allahabad, from Oct 30 to Nov 1. The workshop was organized by Dr. Siddeeqa Jabir and Dr. Nudrat Mahmood, while the sessions were conducted by Dr. Zar Nigar, Assistant Professor at the Centre for Arabic and African Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. The aim of the workshop was to acquaint students with a modern, effective, and structured method of learning Arabic. Around 45 students participated enthusiastically in the program.
Over three days, Dr. Zar Nigar provided intensive and interactive training focused on the four fundamental language skills — listening, speaking, reading, and writing. She emphasized the importance of listening as a key skill in language learning and encouraged students to speak Arabic confidently without fear of mistakes. She also advised them to improve writing skills through continuous reading and engagement with Arabic literature.
The workshop included five interactive sessions, providing a dynamic and participatory learning environment. A comprehensive assessment and feedback session was conducted at the end, followed by the distribution of certificates to all participants in recognition of their successful completion. Students highly appreciated Dr. Zar Nigar’s insightful teaching style, her motivational approach, and her innovative techniques for learning Arabic. The event concluded with the acknowledgment that modern and interactive teaching methods can make learning Arabic more engaging, practical, and result-oriented.
