Male counterparts continue to piss-off fair sex with their rowdy ways, he laments

Prayagraj: “Enough of the ‘bura na maano, Holi hai’ excuse, says senior Congress leader Shelkhar Bahuguna, while replying to queries of journalists on Tuesday. With festivities round the corner, he refrained from commenting on politics, and claimed that women counterparts are tired of being harassed and pelted with balloons. Male counterparts continued to piss-off fair sex with their rowdy ways. Several girls complained of being harassed and lewd remarks were passed, even when they were accompanying their family members on road,” he lamented.

On this joyous occasion, he shared heartfelt Holi greetings with family members, close friends, senior party officials and workers by applying gulal. Bahuguna said that this confluence of mutual love, unwavering trust and brotherhood symbolizes the infusion of new energy and positivity in society. He prays to God that this festival brings happiness and prosperity to all of us and further strengthens our resolve for public welfare. Bahuguna observed that India has always stood as an example of harmony, mutual respect and brotherhood, where people wholeheartedly participate in each other’s festivals and celebrations, reinforcing the spirit of unity in diversity.

Prior to signing off, he lamented that though Holi is often passed off as the playful festival of colours, for some girls, it’s almost a headache through which they pass every year and are sick of the “bura na maano, Holi hai” excuse.

“If a kid throws a water balloon at me and says, ‘bura na maano, Holi hai’, I can smile and walk off, but if some guy hits me on the head with a rotten tomato or egg when I am dressed to attend a party, am I expected to do the same?” asks Anjali a resident of Kalindipuram.

Can’t get out of our homes during holi: The girls of Rajroopur and Chakiya revealed that stepping out of the house during a day after and before Holi invites unnecessary trouble. “Often, the only way, we can protect themselves from the hooligans is by not celebrating the festival.  We know that there are all kinds of wild people playing Holi outside, so we just say inside our hostel rooms, says Anamika. “We don’t have any option but to stop hanging out outside. Most of my outstation friends just go back home or stay inside their hostels. But why should they have to do that?” adds Sakshi from Priyadarshni Hostel of Allahabad University. High-on-bhang uncles on the road: Aapparently, after their dose of bhang drinks, some men like to loiter around and harrass women.
