Prayagraj: A grand event of ‘MNREGA Bachao Chaupal’ was organized on 28th March in Gram Sabha Hussainpur of Sisai. During Chaupal, villagers expressed their anger over the poor condition of MNREGA and back-breaking inflation. Addressing the gathering, chief guest Gangapar District President Ashfaq Ahmed said that the central government is conspiring to end public welfare schemes like MNREGA. Today MNREGA workers are neither getting work on time nor fair wages. By cutting the budget, food is being snatched from the mouth of the poor. He said that today farmers and middle class are suffering due to rising prices and shortage of petrol and diesel. Farming is on the verge of coming to a halt because diesel is becoming beyond the reach of the common man. Making a scathing attack, he said, the government made big promises in the name of Ujjwala, but today the prices of gas cylinders have increased so much that getting gas for the poor has become equivalent to not getting it at all. Empty cylinders today tell the story of the government’s failureLocal villagers and Congress workers participated enthusiastically in the program. The workers pledged that they will take their fight to save MNREGA and against inflation to every village. At the end of Chaupal, the people present in one voice raised their voice against the anti-people policies of the government. The program was conducted by District General Secretary Sunil Pandey and presided over by District Secretary Ramesh Maurya.
