Strong Demand for Appointment of New Pastor
Prayagraj: For the past 28 years, Emmanuel Church, Mirzapur has been plagued by serious financial irregularities and violations of the church constitution. Since 1997, Pastor Suresh Masih, appointed as Presbyter-in-Charge, has consistently disregarded constitutional provisions throughout his tenure. No church committee elections, annual general meetings, treasurer’s audit reports, or annual budgets have ever been presented before the congregation. Funds collected during the 40-day fasting prayer meetings, Harvest Sunday, Christmas donation boxes, and other offerings amounting to lakhs of rupees have not been accounted for. Membership fees are not accepted via cheque, only in cash, and receipts are never issued. During Pastor Suresh Masih’s tenure, diocesan properties worth crores have been sold off and illegally transferred.
These irregularities have severely damaged the credibility of the church, Congregants’ faith and trust are eroding. Church assets and donations are being misused. Transparency and accountability are absent.
An independent investigation committee be formed to probe all financial scandals. Annual reports and budgets be presented before the congregation in accordance with the church constitution. Strict disciplinary action be taken against those found guilty, ensuring such incidents are not repeated. Bishop Dan has assured that immediate and strict disciplinary measures will be taken against the guilty, and transparency will be maintained in Mirzapur Church so that the faith of the congregation can be restored.
A church is not merely a place of worship, but the very center of community faith and trust. If transparency and accountability are not ensured, future generations will lose confidence in the institution. It is therefore imperative that urgent attention be given to this matter and appropriate steps be taken without delay.
