Prayagraj: A case of illegal construction on a public road, flouting rules, has come to light in Ganga Nagar, a ward under the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation. According to reports, in Ganga Nagar’s street number 20 (Circular Road), where the Municipal Corporation recently completed interlocking work, a local resident is carrying out a submersible boring in the middle of the road. According to a complaint letter submitted to the Municipal Commissioner by local residents and advocate Abhay Nath, a man named Umesh Patel is digging a pit in the interlocking lane and carrying out a private boring. This lane is for public traffic, not for personal use. The boring in the middle of the road is not only narrowing the road, but is also likely to severely hinder future sewer line and other maintenance work by the Municipal Corporation. The complainant states that he had previously submitted a petition regarding this matter (dated 05/05/2026), but no concrete action has been taken by the Municipal Corporation administration.

Due to this laxity on the part of the administration, the “boring mafia” has become active in the area, and others are preparing to follow suit by carrying out illegal boring on major roads. Advocate Abhay Nath has also sent a copy to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the District Magistrate of Prayagraj, and the Chief Development Officer, requesting their intervention. Local residents say that if this illegal boring is not immediately stopped and the road restored, they will be forced to protest. Currently, the public’s eyes are fixed on the Municipal Commissioner and departmental action to determine whether those destroying public property for personal gain will be reined in, or whether rules will continue to be flouted. Attempts to contact the Municipal Commissioner were unsuccessful.
