Healthy citizens are the basis of nation building: Prof Satyakam

Prayagraj: The fourth lecture on the topic One Earth, One Health was organised on Wednesday at Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University, Prayagraj, as part of the lecture series organised under the Central Government’s 12 Saal Bemisal programme series.

The keynote speaker, Professor Girendra Singh Tomar, Visiting Professor, Mahayogi Gorakhnath University, Gorakhpur, stated in his online address that human health is inextricably linked to the health of nature. Society can only remain healthy if water, forests, land, and animals are healthy and protected. He stated that if the earth suffers from pollution, imbalance, and malnutrition, human life will also be unable to remain happy and healthy. He explained that India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, provided the message of “One Earth, One Health” from the G-20 platform, providing the global community with a direction towards inclusive health. Professor Tomar presented the principles of healthy living through examples from the Indian knowledge tradition, the Vedas, the Upanishads, and Ayurveda. He emphasized diet, behavior, conduct, and medicine as the foundation of a healthy life. He emphasized the importance of a balanced and timely diet, the use of millets, limited consumption of fast food, and the adoption of the Indian way of life. He stressed the need to make Surya Namaskar, Anulom-Vilom and Yoga a part of daily routine and said that prevention of many physical disorders is possible through regular yoga.

Citing Vedic verses, he emphasized the importance of tree plantation as well as tree conservation, noting that Indian culture values ​​a tree as much as ten sons. He also highlighted the need for integration between digital health, smart pharma, Ayurveda, and various medical systems. He also underscored the importance of waking up before sunrise, drinking water in a copper vessel, and eating before sunset for a healthy life.

Presiding over the program, Professor Satyakam, Vice Chancellor of the Open University, stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is making steady progress in various areas of education, health, environment, and social development. He stated that the concept of “One Earth, One Health” is a highly relevant initiative in our times, paving the way for a balanced relationship between humans and nature. Professor Satyakam stated that healthy citizens are the foundation of nation-building. He stated that a healthy nation can only be built with a healthy body and a healthy society. He urged the youth to embrace yoga, a balanced diet, cleanliness, environmental protection, and Indian values, conveying the message of active participation in building a developed India.

Public Relations Officer Dr. Prabhat Chandra Mishra stated that Nodal Officer Professor Sanjay Singh verbally welcomed the guests and introduced the topic. The program was conducted by Dr. Sunil Kumar, and Professor Anandanand Tripathi expressed his gratitude. The program was attended by notable faculty, officers, staff, researchers, and students.
