Govt immediately pay attention to the pending demands of journalists, otherwise there will be agitation: Hemant Tiwari
Prayagraj: Janata Dal (Secular) state president Onkar Singh said that journalism guides all three pillars of democracy. Singh was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the Late Radheshyam Lal Karna Memorial Environmental Award Ceremony and the state executive meeting organized by the Uttar Pradesh Association of Journalists (UPAJ).
Speaking at the ceremony held in the common hall of MLA Niwas 2, Darulshafa, Singh further stated that the media guides leaders, officials, and society on the right path. It also provides lessons and warnings, and even criticism when necessary.
He said that Loknayak Jai Prakash Narayan, who brought about a historic political revolution, had also published two newspapers. On this occasion, the keynote speaker, Dr. Prasun Shukla, Editor-in-Chief of APN News Channel, said that journalists are demanding pensions. This should be met. This is not a charity, but a right. Senior journalist and President of the State Headquarters Accredited Correspondents Committee, Hemant Tiwari, said, “Journalists are struggling to get their demands met. The government should immediately address these pending demands.” Triyug Narayan Tiwari, National General Secretary of the National Union of Journalists India (NUJI), said that the landscape of journalism is changing.
Journalists should expose the truth with a sense of responsibility. Ashok Malik, former national president of the National Union of Journalists (NUJI), said that a journalist protection law is essential today. The Bihar government has enacted a law, and the Uttar Pradesh government should also enact one. Dr. Falkumar Panwar, a member of the NUJ’s National Executive, said that the government is not paying attention to journalists’ demands. Therefore, a path of struggle must be adopted. Anand Karna, General Secretary of Upaj, highlighted the life of his father and founding General Secretary of Upaj, the late Radheshyam Lal Karna, highlighting his contributions and dedication to the environment.
Earlier in the ceremony, four district units of Upaj were presented with the Late Radheshyam Lal Karna Memorial Environment Award. Chief guest Omkar Singh presented mementos and robes to officials from Varanasi, Bhadohi, Rae Bareli, and Ambedkar Nagar. The ceremony was conducted by Upaj’s state president, Sarvesh Kumar Singh.
5 resolutions passed in the executive meeting. State executive meeting was held in the second session of the program. Resolutions were passed regarding journalist pensions, the Journalist Protection Act, health insurance, the demand for uniform rates at State Property Department guest houses, and the formation of permanent committees in districts. Journalists from across the state were present at the meeting.
