Prayagraj: Unnati Soni has been awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Applied Sciences by the Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad (IIIT Allahabad) at the institute’s 21st Convocation, marking a proud achievement for the Soni family.
The doctoral degree was conferred by the chief guest, Prof. Arvind A. Natu, Chairman, IISER Kolkata, in the presence of Prof. Mukul S. Sutawane, Director, IIIT Allahabad, and other distinguished members of the academic fraternity.
Unnati Soni completed her doctoral research on “Targeted Delivery of Anticancer Drugs Using Platelet Membrane and Erythrocyte Ghosts as Bioinspired Nanocarriers.” Her research was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Pritish Varadwaj, Professor, System Biology Lab, IIIT Allahabad, with the valuable guidance of Late Prof. Krishna Misra, Emeritus Professor, IIIT Allahabad, during the initial stages of her research journey.
Her research focuses on targeted cancer drug delivery, exploring platelet membranes and erythrocyte ghosts as bioinspired nanocarriers. The approach aims to deliver anticancer medicines more precisely to tumour tissues while potentially reducing their impact on healthy cells.
The research draws inspiration from the body’s own biological systems and represents an interdisciplinary approach combining nanotechnology, drug delivery, biotechnology and cancer research. Such cell-derived materials hold promise for the development of more precise and effective drug-delivery systems. The achievement has brought immense pride to Unnati’s parents, Raj Kumar Soni, a businessman, and Meena Soni, a homemaker, making the convocation a memorable moment for the entire family.
