Matang Kanya’ gave a powerful message of equality and human dignity

Sayoni Bhattacharya awarded Vipin Sharma Memorial Young Artist Award 2026

Prayagraj: Vinod Rastogi Smriti Sansthan and Nrityam, Prayagraj, presented a powerful performance of the dance drama “Matang Kanya,” based on Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s timeless work “Chandalika,” on the occasion of the public Ganeshotsav held at the Maharashtra Public Service Board, Alopibagh, on Saturday. The presentation effectively depicted important themes such as casteism, social inequality, and human dignity through dance, acting, and music.

The dance drama was choreographed by Ajay Mukherjee, Secretary of the Vinod Rastogi Institute, and directed by Sayoni Bhattacharya. On stage, Sayoni Bhattacharya, Utkarsh Jaiswal, and Ahona Bhattacharya brought to life the characters of Prakriti, Maya, and the Buddhist monk Ananda in the lead roles. The artists’ expressive acting and dancing moved the audience.

On this occasion, young artist and dancer Sayoni Bhattacharya was honored with the “Vipin Sharma Smriti Young Artist Award 2026,” given in memory of veteran theatre personality Vipin Sharma to encourage young artists. She was presented with a certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 5,000. Divyansh, Antara, Manasvi, Anshika, Anurag, Aditya, Mudrika, Drishya, and Gajendra were the co-actors. Sujoy Ghoshal handled the lighting. At the end of the program, the officials of Vinod Rastogi Smriti Sansthan expressed their gratitude to all the guests, audience, artists, and print and digital media.
