Prayagraj: On the occasion of World Book Day Bookwala, Prayagraj successfully organized a two-day book exhibition-cum-sale fair at the Central Library of Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS). This event proved to be an important initiative towards promoting knowledge, reading culture and intellectual development. The program was formally inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Biswasrup Mehra, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration). The occasion was graced by the presence of several distinguished guests, including Prof. (Dr.) Ritu Prakash Dubey, Pro-Vice Chancellor (PMD) and Chairperson, Library Advisory Committee; Prof. (Dr.) Neeru Bala; and Prof. (Dr.) Deepak Kumar Bose.
In his address, Prof. (Dr.) Biswas Swarup Mehra, describing books as the foundation of a person’s all-round development, encouraged students to adopt the habit of regular reading. He personally purchased books from the exhibition, encouraging students to read. Prof. (Dr.) Ritu Prakash Dubey, while praising the event, said that reading books outside the curriculum promotes innovation, logical thinking, and creativity in students.
In this book fair, a wide collection of books related to education, competitive examinations, inspirational literature, general knowledge and various subjects was presented, which was appreciated with great enthusiasm by the students and teachers.
During the program, Librarian Christopher Sudhir George explained that World Book and Copyright Day, celebrated under the auspices of UNESCO, aims to promote a culture of reading and raise awareness about intellectual property. He also explained that the Central Library periodically strives to connect students with a love of books through such events.
Media in-charge Manish Garg explained that this book fair isn’t limited to the sale of books, but rather its primary objective is to foster a reading habit and spread awareness about knowledge. Expressing gratitude to the university administration, library department, and all its partners, he said that such events provide students with new perspectives and direction for a better future. This two-day book fair proved to be an inspiring experience for students, teachers and book lovers, opening doors to new possibilities of knowledge, thought and learning.
