Prayagraj: Former President of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee and former Cabinet Minister of the state government, Arun Kumar Singh Munna, was cremated with full state honors at Rasulabad Ghat in the presence of hundreds of Congress workers and supporters. As the funeral procession reached Rasulabad Ghat from Badshahpur, a large number of Congress members present there raised slogans of “Munna Bhaiya Amar Rahe.” At around 1:30 PM, the deceased leader’s elder son, Abhishek Singh Ashu, performed the last rites by lighting the funeral pyre. Prior to this, he was given a guard of honor.
Expressing condolence, senior Congress leader, Shekhar Bahuguna said, Munna Singh was a talented leader who was always committed to achieving justice for the underprivileged and Dalits. We may learn from both his work and his attitude. He maintained his secular credentials and remained loyal to the Congress party till his death. Bahuguna claimed that his life, work and principles will continue to inspire generations. He claimed that former minister’s death has left a void, which is difficult to compensation in coming times.
A wreath was kept on behalf of Rajya Sabha Deputy Leader of Opposition, Pramod Tiwari. Paying homage, Tiwari said that Munna was known for his popularity and fearlessness. The 82-year-old leader passed away due to heart attack while undergoing treatment at a private nursing home in Georgetown.
