Prayagraj: Under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager/ Prayagraj, Shri Rajneesh Agrawal, the “World Environment Day” campaign on the theme of ‘Climate Change’ was launched today on 15th May 2026 at Prayagraj Divisional Office, to be run from 15th May, 2026 to 5th June, 2026. During this campaign, campaigns will be run towards use of environment friendly products, tree plantation, water conservation, cleanliness and construction of plastic free railway premises. Additional Divisional Railway Manager/ Infra, Shri Dhananjay Kumar Singh; Senior Divisional Environment and Maintenance Manager, Shri Vikram Singh Koli along with other officers and employees were present on this occasion.
On this occasion, Divisional Railway Manager/ Prayagraj, Shri Rajneesh Agarwal took oath for environmental protection along with the officers and employees present. “I pledge to make every possible change in my daily life to save the environment. I also promise to continuously inspire my family, friends and others about the importance of environmentally friendly habits and behaviors.”
As part of Indian Railways’ campaign to mark World Environment Day 2026, Prayagraj Division will conduct a comprehensive environmental protection and public awareness campaign from May 15th to June 5th, 2026. Under this campaign, various activities will be organized at railway stations, colonies, and office premises to promote environmental protection, cleanliness, plastic elimination, water and energy conservation, and sustainable lifestyles. In the initial phase, awareness campaigns will be conducted under the themes of “Mission Life” and “World Environment Day 2026,” promoting climate change, the ill effects of single-use plastic, and an environmentally friendly lifestyle through posters, banners, and digital messages. Passengers and employees will be encouraged to use reusable bottles, bags, and containers, and to adopt digital ticketing and paperless travel.
During the campaign, special cleanliness drives will be conducted at railway stations and surrounding areas, raising awareness about waste segregation and proper disposal. The use of biodegradable and non-plastic materials will be encouraged in collaboration with IRCTC and other relevant agencies. Plastic bottle crushing machines on railway premises will be reviewed, water refilling stations will be inspected, and passengers will be encouraged to carry and refill their own water bottles. Vendors and service providers at railway stations will also be sensitized to ensure compliance with the ban on single-use plastic. Awareness about the ill effects of plastic pollution will be spread through street plays, public interactions, and collaboration with schools.
The Railways will also launch a tree plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative and special efforts will be made to maintain a green and clean environment at railway stations, colonies and parks. Drawing, essay and quiz competitions will be organised to make environmental protection a mass movement, and cloth and jute bags and eco-friendly products will be promoted under the “One Station One Product” scheme. In addition, awareness campaigns will be launched on water conservation, rainwater harvesting, water recycling, energy conservation, use of LEDs and switching off unnecessary electrical appliances. On World Environment Day, June 5, 2026, extensive public awareness programs will be organized at railway stations, workplaces, and local areas with the support of Scouts, NCC, social organizations, schools, and public representatives. On this occasion, the campaign’s achievements will be presented, and stations, divisions, and employees who have made outstanding contributions to environmental protection may be honored.
