Prayagraj: A major step has been taken in bringing India’s ancient and emerging boomerang sport on the global scene. Indian athletes, represented by the Indo Boomerang Association, will compete in the World Boomerang Championship, which will take place in Indonesia.

A significant step has been made in India to offer worldwide recognition to the sport of boomerang. The Indian squad, led by Vivek Montrose, the country’s first professional boomerang thrower and creator and a member of the International Federation of Boomerang Associations in Germany as well as the founding president of the Indo-Boomerang Association, will compete in the World Boomerang Championship in Indonesia.

Vivek Montrose’s adventure began when he was a toddler and received his first boomerang from Australian educator and Indigenous scholar Lily Bhavna Kowler. He then studied with famous Aboriginal elder Ken Colbung, who taught him about the cultural value of boomerangs, traditional carving, and competitive tactics.

Players chosen for the Indian team include Jai Singh Yadav of Uttar Pradesh, Bhagwan Das Toppo of West Bengal, Yash Shukla of Madhya Pradesh, Hariom Suryavanshi of Madhya Pradesh, Bhavana Tyag of Delhi, Bala Subramanya of Tamil Nadu, and Prabhakaran of Tamil Nadu. Team members include Ravikant Mishra, Nitin Kushwaha, and Dr. Shubhanshu Singh.

Vivek Montrose stated that the players’ years of hard work and commitment earned them the opportunity to compete in prominent competitions. He feels that the team’s mission is not just to win gold, but also to provide international exposure to the boomerang sport and motivate young people to join. He also stated that boomerangs are more than simply a kind of entertainment, but a combination of physics, talent, cultural tradition, and athletic greatness. People in India believe the team would return with greater dignity to the tricolour and take the boomerang game to new heights.
