The event, spearheaded by the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, aims to directly amplify student grievances surrounding rampant paper leaks, examination irregularities, and rising educational fees.

Venue Dispute: The rally was originally booked to take place at the KP College Ground (Kayastha Pathshala Trust). However, the Trust canceled the permission, citing an old Allahabad High Court order and potential disruption to academic activities.

Political Objectives: Shekhar Bahuguna expressed that through this student rally, the Congress Party intends to “take their fight to the finish” against what they label as the systemic failure of the current administration. He noted that Rahul Gandhi will use the campaign for direct dialogue and outreach with local youth.

Shekhar Bahuguna is a veteran Indian National Congress (INC) leader from a highly prominent political dynasty in Uttar Pradesh: He is the son of the late former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna. His elder brother is Vijay Bahuguna (former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand) and his sister is Rita Bahuguna Joshi (former UP Congress Chief and later BJP leader). Unlike his siblings who switched allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shekhar Bahuguna has remained a steadfast Congress loyalist, having previously contested the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections from the Phaphamau constituency in Allahabad under the Congress banner.
