Prayagraj: The Central Library, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS), celebrated National Librarians’ Day with great enthusiasm on 12 August 2026 at 3:00 p.m. to commemorate the birth anniversary of Padma Shri Prof. Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India. The programme highlighted the vital role of libraries and librarians in promoting knowledge, research, and lifelong learning.
The programme was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Mrs. Ritu P. Dubey, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Planning, Monitoring & Development) and Chairperson, Library Advisory Committee, as the Chief Guest. Mrs. Chhandita Sen, Dy. Librarian was leading the program. The event commenced with prayer by Mrs. Rekha Patel office assistant and a floral welcome, followed by an inspiring address by Mr. Christofhar Sudhir George, Librarian, who highlighted the significant contribution of Padma Shri Prof. Dr. S. R. Ranganathan to the development of Library and Information Science in India. He emphasized that Dr. Ranganathan’s Five Laws of Library Science continue to guide modern libraries in delivering user-centric, innovative, and accessible information services, and encouraged students to make effective use of both print and digital library resources for academic excellence and lifelong learning.
In her address, Prof. (Dr.) Mrs. Ritu P. Dubey appreciated the dedicated services of the Central Library and its professionals in strengthening the University’s teaching, learning, and research ecosystem. She encouraged students to make maximum use of the library’s rich print and electronic resources for academic and professional growth. She further remarked that a vibrant library is the intellectual heart of a university and plays a pivotal role in nurturing critical thinking, innovation, and a lifelong reading culture among students and researchers. She congratulated the Central Library for organizing meaningful academic programmes that inspire knowledge sharing and student engagement.
During the programme, all library professionals were felicitated for their sincere commitment and valuable contribution to the University. The winners of the Inter-Departmental Debate Competition, organized on 10 August 2026 as part of the National Librarians’ Day celebrations, were also honoured with prizes and certificates.

Vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs. Shweta Chaurasia Assistant Librarian, expressing gratitude to the University Administration, the Library Advisory Committee, faculty members, library professionals, students, and all participants for making the event a grand success. The celebration concluded with a word of prayer by Librarian. There was refreshment for everyone presented in the program.
