Construction on land reserved for oil pipeline on 60 feet road in Kareli, ERPL issues notice to remove it within 15 days

Prayagraj: Illegal construction has been reported on land reserved for a petroleum pipeline on 60 Feet Road in Kareli. ERPL (Eastern Region Pipeline), the pipeline division of Indian Oil Corporation Limited, has issued notices to those involved in the construction and encroachment on the land. All have been directed to remove the encroachments and construction within 15 days.

ERPL’s notice states that the Central Government has acquired the right to use the land in question for a petroleum pipeline under the Petroleum and Mineral Pipelines Act, 1962. Construction of any building or structure on this land is prohibited. Mining, pond construction, well construction, water tank construction, dam construction, and tree plantation are also prohibited.

Some of those who received the notice are said to have connections with members of a mafia gang. It is alleged that tin sheds and other constructions were built on land reserved for the pipeline through coercion. Now, ERPL has issued notices to the concerned people, asking them to remove the encroachment within the stipulated time. According to the notice, some people have encroached upon the land reserved for the pipeline by constructing iron roads, shops, tin sheds and other structures. ERPL officials have described this as a serious threat to the safety of the pipeline. According to officials, unauthorized construction around the pipeline could hamper relief and rescue operations in the event of an accident and endanger lives.
