Conclusion of 20-day nautanki workshop at Sarai Akil, Kaushambi

Prayagraj: The 20-day (from 1 June 2026 to 20 June 2026) folk theatre Nautanki workshop, which was going on at Shri Raghuraj Singh Memorial College, Fakirabad Sarai Akil Kaushambi under the joint aegis of Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Academy Lucknow (Culture Department, Uttar Pradesh) and Indian Folk and Modern Art Academy, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, concluded with the staging of the Nautanki “Jaisi Karni Vaisi Bharni” presented in the workshop by the students of several schools of Kaushambi district at Bhagwat Resort, Fakirabad Sarai Akil Kaushambi.

The program was inaugurated by lighting of lamp by social worker Mr. Gunakar Singh, Director of Prayagraj Karate Club Mr. Mithun Nishad, Rajiv Pratap Singh, Rameshwar Singh and senior theatre artist of Prayagraj Mr. Ramesh Dhuria and Saraswati Vandana by folk singer Shikha Bose.

The story of the drama “Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharni” is about a Dinanath alias Jaalim Singh who had troubled the entire village with his misdeeds due to which the entire village was angry with him and everyone broke all ties with him and a time comes when such a flood comes in the life of Jaalim Singh that everything of his is destroyed and he is ruined for money, then he realizes his mistake and apologizes to all the villagers.

To see this presentation, a crowd of people living near the venue gathered at Bhagwat Resort because this was the first such folk theatre Nautanki workshop in Kaushambi in which students from many schools of Kaushambi district studied and learned the Nautanki style and presented it. In this presentation, the character of the actor was played by Sachin Gautam, actress Akanksha Parul, Jaalim Singh Shubham, music master Ashish Kumar, village head Rahul Gautam, Jaalim’s sister Nandani and other artists were Ashutosh Gupta, Jai Singh, Preeti, Roshni Prajapati, Radhika Abhay Gupta etc. and Santosh Kumar on Dholak, Mahesh Kumar on Harmonium, Naqqara Sandeep Kumar costume design Shakuntala. Make-up was done by Hamid Ansari, electrical arrangements by Himanshu Sharma, co-direction by Saloni Kannaujiya and Sachin Gautam and workshop trainer, concept and direction was done by senior theatre artist Ramesh Kashyap.
