Prayagraj: A five-day out-of-state farmer training-cum-tour program of the Agricultural Technical Management Agency (ATMA) component of selected farmers of Darbhanga district, Bihar was concluded by the Directorate of Extension, SHUATS. Director Extension, Dr. Praveen Charan, while guiding the farmers about the importance and usefulness of Shri Anna, said that Shri Anna crops are healthy, full of nutrition and in comparison to other grains, better micronutrients and bioactive flavonoids are found in it. Chief Guest Vice Chancellor Dr. Vishwaroop Mehra, while encouraging the farmers towards scientific production and value addition, said that in our country, about 80 percent of Asia’s and 20 percent of the world’s coarse grains are produced. Diseases are less in these crops and there is less need for pesticides. Its use is also negligible because it can be easily grown on non-irrigated land, hence its production can be increased manifold in India if the demand increases. He discussed with the farmers about the bamboo promotion project run by the university and the cultivation and benefits of dragon fruit. Female catalyst Mrs. Meena Nathan, scientist Dr. Rampal Singh, training coordinator Dr. Manish Kumar Kesarwani also gave technical information to the trainee farmers. On the closing occasion, senior scientist and head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Prayagraj, Dr. Mukesh P. Masih, coordinator of Extension Directorate, Dr. Arun Yadav and scientists Dr. Yogesh Chandra Srivastava, Dr. Sarvendra Kumar, Dr. Shailendra Kumar Singh and Dr. Madan Sen Singh etc. were present. Certificates, training literature and bags etc. were distributed to the farmers.
