Prayagraj: To celebrate National Poets Day, the Department of English, SHUATS, organized a Poetry Recitation Competition on Friday, 21 August, on the university campus, giving students a platform to showcase their talent and love for poetry.
The programme began with an opening prayer by Dr. Apsara Stanley and was anchored by Mr. Shriyut Srivastava. Prof. Dr. Ashish Alexander delivered the welcome speech, speaking about the beauty of poetry and its power to connect the human heart with the world.
The judging panel consisted of Prof. Dr. Sabana Mazhar, from Department of Business Studies and Prof. Dr. Shivani S. Verma, Department of English. In Hindi recitation, Vartika from forensic science won the first place, Eshana from English department came second, and Apoorva Gautam from biological sciences was third. In English recitation, there was a tie for the first place between Yashashawi, from basic sciences and Neha from English department, Pavni, an agricultural student was placed second, and Eshana from English department came third.
“Such events help students develop their skills and personalities. We plan to hold more such events in the future,” said Prof. Ashish Alexander, the Head of the English department.
Dr. Hira Bose, Dr. Apsara Stanley, Ms. Ankita A. Nath, Ms. Zenith Denis, Mr Shriyut Srivastava and Ms. Amrita Singh were also present, encouraging the participants throughout.
