Prayagraj: Young participants from various states are learning the nuances of theatre in a 30-day performing theatre workshop organized jointly by the North Central Zone Cultural Centre, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and the National School of Drama, New Delhi. The workshop aims to provide participants with practical training in various forms of acting, as well as the technical, creative, and presentational aspects of theatre.

In the workshop, participants are being trained in important subjects like acting, voice and speech, light, set, stage decoration, story, character building, dialogue delivery and stage presentation. Under the guidance of workshop director Avtar Sahni, participants are practicing acting along with the technical nuances of light, set and stage presentation. Amit Banerjee is training the participants in voice and speech, in which special emphasis is being laid on voice modulation, pronunciation, clarity of dialogue and effective expression on stage.

Vandana Vashisht provided acting training to the participants. Under her guidance, participants are practicing understanding character, expressing emotions, and performing naturally on stage. Devendra Raj Ankur, former Director of the National School of Drama, discussed and practiced the process of storytelling and various aspects of dramatizing a story.

Along with training, the workshop also introduces participants to the collective workings of theatre. The coordination of the director, lighting, sets, costumes, and other technical aspects with the actors on stage is being practically explained. Center Director Sudesh Sharma informed that the play “Daansh: Displacement,” being prepared by the participants under the direction of workshop director Avtar Sahni, will be staged on August 30, 2026, in the auditorium of the North Central Zone Cultural Center.
