Prayagraj: The North Central Zone Cultural Centre, Prayagraj, expresses deep condolences on the passing of its founding director, renowned playwright, director, and cultural thinker, Padma Shri Shri Daya Prakash Sinha. Mr. Sinha passed away at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Friday. Born on May 2, 1935, in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh, Daya Prakash Sinha was a stalwart of Indian theatre who not only redefined the Hindi theatre world but also left a profound mark on cultural administration. His literary contributions include numerous original plays that explore diverse aspects of Indian society, history, and culture. Furthermore, three notable books on his creative talent, written by leading authors of the country, have further deepened his multifaceted personality. While serving as Secretary of the Sahitya Kala Parishad, Delhi, he shaped cultural policies. His role as Controller of Cultural Affairs during the 1982 Asian Games was highly commendable. Furthermore, his tenure as Director of the Indian Cultural Centre in Suva, Fiji, proved to be a milestone in establishing India’s cultural heritage internationally. With the passing of Daya Prakash Sinha, the world of Indian theatre, literature, and culture has lost a towering figure whose creativity, scholarship, and vision will continue to inspire generations to come.
