Prayagraj: Senior advocate leader Arif Iqbal has called the incident of indecency and assault on female lawyers by junior doctors at SRN Hospital in Prayagraj inhumane and a public betrayal of the medical profession. He shot off a letter to Brijesh Pathak, Deputy Chief Minister and Health Department in-charge, demanding a high-level investigation into the entire matter, identifying the guilty doctors, and immediately terminating their services. Arif Iqbal stated that instead of providing the best possible treatment to the female lawyer injured in the accident, the doctors committed the criminal act of putting her in fear for her life in the hospital. The letter stated that the junior doctors’ actions of locking the lawyers in a room and injuring them with sharp weapons have tarnished the entire medical profession. He also remarked that in Lucknow, the police administration recently forcibly broke into lawyers’ chambers and resorted to lathi-charging. He said that the wounds of the state’s lawyers have not yet healed from the lathi charge, and the SRN incident has only deepened them. He said that these attacks on lawyers across the state, targeted by criminals, police, and now even medical institutions, are a naked display of anarchy. He warned that if the government does not stop the ongoing harassment of lawyers, the lawyers’ movement across the state will escalate into a fight to the finish.
